Nikon Capture v4.3New version released, hopefully it'll have been speeded up a bit.
Can only find Mac version at mo, PC will follow very soon I'm sure. (Link should start download automaticaly) CC
Windows version.
Thanks for the heads up Charlie!
[quote="MCWB"]Windows version.
Thanks for the heads up guys. Just a quick note. This is the US version and does not install over the Asian version. Region coding blah blah rubbish! Expect to see it on the Nikon-Asia website real soon. Cheers Matt
Thanks Matt. Took their bloody time didn't they!

exact same here - hung - says 4.3 - no change Cheers
Georgie
Well, I spent the last couple of hours trying to get the thing to work - even to the point of completely removing NC and NV and installing from scratch.... No joy. The install was getting hung on NControl.exe like everyone else. I tried to recover the installation files from my temp directory but everything after disk 1 is missing.
It looks as though Nikon put a dodgy file up, and have now pulled it down. Maybe they realised the problem. Hopefully we will get a usable update when it goes back up. Cheers Matt
Matt C, thanks for the testing, hadn't had time to install so you saved me some heartache. Thank you.
ps how hard would it have been for Nikon to test this install on say one of every windows since 95? About an hours work?
Actually, that sort of testing is quite onerous; I used to have to do exactly that back in Dallas, but with just W95, W98, and NT4 as the target OSes. I had 2 PCs specifically for testing, each identical and ghoisted to provide me with base copies of each of those OSes. But ... this is where it gets ugly - what's a base install? Observe that each of those OSes could have different levels of SP applied, and each of them could also have different versions of IE installed, each of which modified the baseline setup that you were targeting. Yet each was a valid base setup target for the installation setup I was testing. Today you'd drop W95 from the mix, but add in W2K and XP, then add in the variants for the differeing SPs and IE versions ... That's just the base installs you need to keep. Now you need to restore to one of those baseline setups, and then run your installation, and then run your test scripts. And keep a record of exactly what you've done. 'taint anywhere near as easy as one might expect, I can assure you. g.

Thats true Gary...but the problem here is that its failed on a whole bunch of systems...including the *latest* OS Win Xp sp2. Its not like it works on Win XP sp1, but fails on Win98...
We had an application working fine on Win2k, but during testing failed in XP. The failure was to do with an API call that changed from Win2k to XP. Sure its not feasible to test every config, every case but in this case it seems that Nikon blew it. Has anyones install worked?
Don't forget to include the potential of corrupted registries due to viruses, etc. when testing with windoze
I've had a few cases in the past where it worked on my friend's but not on mine. A nice clean format helped fix it
Hi All,
My update worked fine. Downloaded it Fri 17th (pm), installed it, restarted XP, off and racing. Cheers Mick.
I didn't have any problems with this, working straight after installed and reboot with WIN XP SP2 on my PCs.

No problem here with the revised updater either - didn't even need a reboot. Big question is - will it install OK on machines the botched installer was used on?

Peter, I dont think that I am going to chance it. I'll just clean the lot out and reinstall from scratch.
Meanwhile I am sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for this very slow download - down to less than 3k!!! Cheers Matt
Maybe try again later, Monday, download from ASIA site is too slow and I experienced that before so I first registered my D100 couple years ago with Nikon USA and downloaded from there, I didn't try Asia site again.

Ok, can someone please explain to me what's going on.
As I said earlier, when I try to download, it downloads almost instantaneously. I thought nothing was being transferred. When I looked in the folder, a file by the name of nikoncap43_upd was there, all 14.1mb of it. So I thought maybe it's the old one that hangs, so I delete it, try the download and the same thing happens. I try downloading it in a different folder, same thing. It is not the new file, it still hangs. So is windows or Mozilla that smart that it knows I have downloaded a file by that name and keeps coming up with it without downloading the new one? or what? __________

2nd downloaded version installed successfully.
Philip. when I tried re-downloading the file to the same directory it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the file "YES". I'm not sure why yours doesn't. I sugest you clear history/ cache in your browser may be it re-loads the old cached version. Alex
Phillip,
I just downloaded it in one go and installed (U/G) it without any problems in both versions of Windows 2K and XP (SP2). NC4.3 is lot faster than the previously version, more happy with it when playing with D2x RAW, what can I ask more Birddog114

Depend on what CPU and RAM you have. I have 04 x P4 3.8Ghz CPU and 2Gb RAM in each PC and heap of disk space with SATA. Birddog114

Finally up and running without a hitch. Other than the support for the d50 I am not sure if it is worth the full increment on the version number.
Not to sure about the new performance tab. The name implies something else, but I can only live in hope. Cheers Matt
I am downloading it now along with Nikon Veiw, a lot faster today, maybe everyone was getting it. Not sure if the NV is worthwhile updating but well keep it up to scratch i guess.

Is that version 6.2.5?? or is there a newer version I am missing? I thought 6.2.5 had been out for a while? Cheers

Installing the latest versions of Nikon View & Nikon capture seriously f@#%^d up my Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 settings - to such an extent that I have had to uninstall everything and reinstall Elements to regain use of Adobe RAW. Adobe Photoshop CS is on my other computer, which doesn't have the Nikon software, so I am not aware of any problems there.
Did anyone else experience these problems? Now I am unsure of reinstalling the Nikon proggies. I am wondering if has anything to do with the Nikon v Adobe war over RAW images. But maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist TFF (Trevor)

Trevor,
What did it do? If it was just the Nikon plugin overriding the ACR plugin, that is easy to fix. Rename Nikon NEF Plugin.8bi by adding a ~ to the begining (this is the correct way to disable a plugin) or just delete it. If it has damaged your pref file (unlikely), that is reset by holding ctrl and shift while starting PS (dialog will appear for confirmation) Cheers Matt Edit: Correction CTRL+ALT+SHIFT while starting
I'm really not sure what happened, Matt. I intalled updates to View & Capture. Then Adobe PSE3, when opening RAW files, reverted to the old (I guess Nikon) RAW converter. On top of that, if I continued to open the file, the image would have a violent red colour shift. I was also getting out of RAM messages on opening 1 NEF file (I have 2Gb RAM!). I didn't check the plug-in folder at that time. I uninstalled Nikon View & Capture, and also PSE3; then re-installed PSE3 and updated the plug-in. I haven't re-installed the Nikon software yet - I might see if I can exist without them for the moment. PSE3 is working normally after re-installation. TFF (Trevor)

Ouch! You could try reinstalling all of the Nikon Software (after running regsweeper) to see if the problem reoccurs. If it does then it may be worth contacting Nikon Support. I have heard of issues like this one (colour shifting) previously, but have never seen a definitive answer. The worst problem that I have had, other than that dodgy NC4.3 installer, is having to periodically reinstall NV because Nikon Transfer breaks.
