14,878 Shutter Actuations in 7 MonthsHi All, Chris asked me as i do take a lot of pics when i am at the track and well Stubbsy supplied me with the proggy to check and yes 14,878 on the shutter count in 7 months, i spose this is a lot for some people who just take a few but like i have said at the track i can take upto 300+ a day.
Well so far so good, i think if i get another 14,000 + more i will be happy and know that the camera has served well. Cheers John BBJ D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

Re: 14,878 Shutter Actuations in 7 Months
At my local shopping centre last week, I spied a bloke walking round with a D70 attached. I stopped to ask him what he thought of it. It turns out he was a pro photographer. He says he really misses film, and when I asked him why, it wasn't for any technical reason - he just misses the whole tactile shooting film and developing it scenario. Anyhow (coming to the point) he said that he has 18,000 shutter actuations in 12 months with no shutter problems. Oh yes - he said he was about to buy his second body, a D70s. TFF (Trevor)

Good onya John, and Trevor's random pro photog guy met on the streets...
I am aware that the D70 is one of Nikon's best selling cameras in recent history, and it's good to see some examples being used to their fullest potential. It gives me the warm and fuzzies inside. The camera does no one any good if it's sitting in a bag at home collecting dust. To truly appreciate the camera and its superiority in handling, ergonomics and resulting images, it should be used as its engineers intended.
Hi Trevor, yes well 18,000 is a lot so yes i am happy with it and well auto focus could be a bit faster but yeh it's great. I said to my partner if it dies i have to get another and she said i am not allowed til she wins the Lotto, yeh right, but if she did i would see a new DX, but i think i would get the new D70s if it came to it and i had to get another.
I still have a full Yashica 35m film outfit that i dont use anymore, should sell it but well yeh maybe handy for back up but i cant see myself running to buy film. D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

I have done 14301 in 7 months, and expect to top 20,000 before warranty expires.
I've slowed down since switching from JPEG to RAW as I can only fit 1/2 as many on a card but in the end I get a lot more keepers. - Nick

No worries Nick here is the actual amount as just took some pics of the kids, 14,892. Will be more later as i forgot to change the iso as usual so have to do them again.

Get it work more harder to see if anything is right! push it over 20K or 30 to see how robust it's, otherwise once the warranty run out and you get stuffed with it.

Birddog: With those extended warrantys (which I believe you are a reseller for) can they be bought for my camera now? Could I extend my warranty for two further years from the end of the Nikon warranty? I remember you saying that shutter failure was covered. - Nick

I'm around 13000-15000 at last count. I'm hoping I can get another year out of the camera, I've started to try and reduce my shutter presses when out. It's hard, but I think you have to start thinking "would I do this with film". Fair enough if it's action you're snapping, but if it's a static subject and the lighting is great and you're shooting RAW.....you should try and reduce the shots, take time to check composition. Obviously you might want to try and take shots of the same subject different angles but just think about it.

I'm at work so can't check (no, I DON'T have my camera or the manual at my desk) - how do you determine the number of shutter activations?

Thanks Peter.
Gee, only 4932 in just over 12 mths - I told everyone I was a wimp. Anyway, it's quality, not quantity, that counts Frank My photo gallery: http://www.frankalvaro.net

I've got 20,892 here over almost 11 months. I'm hoping the shutter holds out until Nikon release their D100 replacement (at least). I don't think the D2X is on my horizon anytime soon.
That extended warranty looks good - depending on the pricing, I'd be interested as well. Julian
