Mobile with a big lens - Camera bag holsters?Hi guys
I have shot a couple of weddings now. I have a D70 and a D70S. I have the kit lens, the 70-200VR and the 50mm 1.4. During the action I have been using the kit lens mostly but often need something with more reach. I like to shoot closeups and not have the camera in peoples faces if you know what I mean. Much easier to catch the natural look from a distance. This is one of the reasons I bought the 70-200 and it is great for this however the problem is because of the weight of the lens it is too much strain on the body in my view to let it hang while I shoot with the other camera. Sure I can put the big lens down on the ground or something but that is far from ideal and no good when I need to moving around catching the action. I considered the 24-120VR but sometimes I need more reach than this and it is too slow a lens for wedding ceremonies often held around 4pm with heavy shadows. The only solution I can see is to get one of those holster style bags I can put on my waist and sheath the big boy in there when not in use. When I need it just let the camera with kits lens hang and pull the other camera with the 70-200 out. I want to be able to leave the lens shade on, no good fumbling for the hood everytime I need the lens, the opportunity may have passed. Unfortunately Lowepro don't make a bag long enough for this. They have one that will hold the lens but not with the hood on. After extensive searching this was the only thing I could find. http://www.kinesisgear.com/c/C640.html Does anyone with knowledge of this mob or other options I could consider. The gear looks good if a bit expensive. cheers
I know and bought from them many items.
The bag from their site is good but hey! it's real big and bulky, you may not like it after you received and physical play with it. To get the camera and attached lens in and out that bag, required you still have time for zip and unzip, I don't see any faster action you can get away with it. Birddog114

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Birdy. I probably wouldn't zip it up while I am using it. Should be fairly quick to holster and draw. I can't see any other way around it anyway.
I am fairly tall so I should be okay moving around with it and kneeling without the holster bag getting in the way too much, but I can see it would be bulky given the size of lens and camera it needs fit.
Once you're unzipped the flap it's very hard to carry, I got one before and ditched it and use a vest or vest harness.

You could always use a velcro strap attached to your belt to harness the monster (and camera) when using the other body and lens

You will find the emptied bag sling around your neck but no camera and the 70-200VR in there Birddog114
