Photoshop CS2Just having a bit of a play with the NEF reader. If you turn off all the AUTO settings and don't use a custom tone curve (eg. leave it at normal) in Camera/Nikon Capture. Then the results in PS CS2 are pretty much spot on.
Probably already been discussed before, but I'm pretty happy if I can cut out a step in my workflow. Darryl (aka Kipper)

I hate to ruin your day but the NEF reader in PSCS2 is a plugin and has been upgraded to RAW 3.1. Bridge uses the same plugin

Hmmm, this is the dialog that I get if I open an NEF from inside PS.
http://www.pixspot.com/albums/userpics/ ... -1%7E1.jpg (Icky colours bacause of the way I copied and pasted to create image) That is the ACR. I think V3 is built in. V3.1 does not seem replace it as both are still accessable. Some like to use auto settings, personally I don't, so I saved my own preferences as the camera defaults (not those shown - mine are pretty close to the calibration defaults). There is still a little work involved, but I feel that it is less than with the auto settings. Others may have opinions that differ. There is also a handy little feature in Bridge that allows viewing the preview with or without Camera Raw defaults.
Mattc......... have you profiled your camera, screen, and printer using GretagMacbeth system......if you have it is total control....

Yep, my workflow is calibrated and colour managed throughout - dont worry about that image. In reality it looks nothing like that. That was a result of using alt+ prnt scrn and pasting into a new PS doc with conflicting profiles..... I let it go because it was only meant to be a quick illustration for the purpose of this discussion. Cheers
