12 Apostle pano's

G'day all,

Was mucking around with a couple of pano's (yep, Autostitch) and anted to hear your thoughts on these ones for PP suggestions...

Taken down at Port Campbell (der!) nice light but frustratingly either didn't take them, deleted them them, or simply not taken the one to the left cos I can't find the bloody NEFs


This one I'm not yet sure on the sky, or whether the cliffs need something on the left hand side...


Your thoughts would be appreciated so go for it

I prefer the first one. Strong colour. More dramatic.

The sky for the second one seem dull.

nice shots. I personally prefer the scene/composition of the 2nd pic, but the bold colouring of the 1st.

Perhaps you can artificially PP the 2nd to have the golden colours in the rock ?!? I actually don't mind the sky of the 2nd pic either. The cliff on the LHS could maybe do with some more contrast to bring it out a little.

Would be interested to see an update to this if you decide to PP again...

it got the better of me and I had a little play, hope you dont mind:



I adjusted levels, added saturation on rocks, added shadow/highlights on both rocks and trees on top of cliff and did some USM (using high-pass filter method)

i would like to more of the first pic mudder, it just seems that the middle stone/pillar it too much in the middle. maybe a tad soft too, might be jpeg softness though.

did you have any more of the left side?

look like you choose the right time too shoot, great colors

That looks great Dave, go for it I always whoos out on the sharpening and levels thinking big print but that looks great! I've only used a light high-pass and no USM, looks good big but I always look at a large print and think I could've sharpened "that area" more, or gee "that area" needs levels or something... Ahh well...

Redline... I dan't find the NEF's to the left, there's a gap in the files if you know what I mean, I've been looking

That one was 10"x23" or so I think... Looks great but was quickly done as an example of some stuff I did for the Zoo thing, but it's hanging in the bar for now Looks sharp as a tack when printed well...

I think I just mustn't have taken them, but there's a suspicious gap in the filenames of the NEFs.... Now, when I have a red at the bar I keep thinking about "the one to the left"

First one is a great shot with it zoomed more closer compared the second one it. The colors are great

I liked the composition and effect of the second pano better. i hope you don't mind i added a little more mood and drama as a thought and could only think of getting it on pixspot to view. great shots though! Loved to be there!!

Missed this in the news. Just went and read up on this at abc.net.au. Liked this quote "Numerous ads and promotions featuring the 12 apostles may now have to be re-shot" PS There were nine, now there are 8 apostles

Lol, how pathetic is it, one structure disappears so they have to reshoot all their promotional images. Why will somebody sue them if they turn up expecting 9 and they only get 8!@??

Wow, looks like some of the shots I've got from down at Port Campbell are keepers now... I must admit, when-ever I've seen them, I've always been amazed at the fact they're still standing... Matter of time I suppose...

Then again, the cliff face along the shore is made of the same stuff, so you never know, we might be up to a bakers dozen in a few years if the cliff face starts breakin' up a bit

I heard a VIC tourism guy on the radio this morning saying that there was a group of 4 stacks further up the coast and if the apostles kept collapsing at this rate, they might need to adopt those four to keep the numbers up...

Useless trivia: the structures (and a close by island) used to be called the Sow & Piglets, but the name was changed in the 50s as a marketing tool...
