Hi Guys.
When you focus at infinity with the kit lens, where abouts does it line up on the distance scale? Is it under the cross-over of the infinity symbol or slightly beyond that?
Just asking because when in manual focus during a recent shoot, I had it at that point and the shots came out slightly out of focus.
Cheers,
Owen.

Owen, different examples of the same lens will focus in dfferent spots. Your out of focus elements were probably the result of the small viewfinder which makes manual focussing dificult

I read somwhere a long time ago that infinity focus is in the middle of the 8 and you can go past infinity on the lense.
I alway use DOF preview to give me an indication of what's in focus

You should have very sharp eyes I'd love to use this feature of d70 but with this small viewfinder it makes impossible for me especially for objects at infinitive distance

Hilop,
Huynhie uses DOF preview on his F5 and new D2x, though its viewfinder is bigger than the D70.
DOF preview on the D70 is suck!
Get the D2x

I'll have both D2H + D2x on this Saturday for you to try at Anna Bay and you can see what can be changed after?

Fortunately(?), we have to pull ourselves off this meeting
Me and Lara both will be busy this weekend and Taya's got a flu So, next time probably .
Owen,
Sorry for stealing tread. Back to the subject - I'm doing auto focusing and then switching to manual when it's prefocused

Mikhail, I think we are all envious of the D2 brigade with their large viewfinders

No worries mate.
I've used a similar method but this runs into difficulties at night when sometimes I haven't been able to lock on anything. I think I will just have to do some more experimenting and see what methods I can come up with.
Cheers,
Owen.

Owen, might be worth doing a google on "hyperfocal" if you are doing a lot of landscapes

I know about hyperfocal Glen... don't exactly know how to find the right range but I do know the principal of it. However thanks for bringing that up, perhaps it is something else that has caused the softness in the images because even if it was a little out the shots were taken at F22 so it should all be in focus.
I'll have to investigate.

hahahaha
I'm really not teasing you guys. I remembered when I owned an F50 and to do depth of field preview I had to change the aperature on the lense and then "unmount the lense" and look through the viewfinder.

would be great if there was an effective viewfinder magnification attachment for the D70. How well does the one work that is suggested in the manual?
