Sigh, seems so coincidental with G8 Summit and the Olympics Bid. Darryl (aka Kipper)

It's absolutely terrible this.
In what could only be seen as a form of terrorism (the bus is the problem with the electric surge theory), my thoughts go out to every Londoner and anyone who has family or friends in London, as well as members of this board. That said, I highly doubt it's connected with G8 or the Olympics. I would imagine that its similarities with 9/11 would connect it to a terrorism incident local to a Middle Eastern group and I would anticipate that we'll see groups taking responsibility within a few hours. Absolutely shocking news. I don't know anyone in London at the moment, thankfully. Such a tragic day after the elation of yesterday, and my heart goes out to all Londoners.
Here is a news link with step-by-step updates...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4659331.stm
Sorry to hear this terrible breaking news from all TV channels.
My thoughts also go out to those people, relatives, friends out there same as our members. And also to million of innocents people got killed in recent war in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries around the world. To our members: who are planning or going on holiday soon, take care and have a safe trip. This is the result of WAR and REVENGE and we are the collateral and victims of the warmonger. Birddog114

Watching the event unfolding on TV... I am amazed that it has taken them this long to hit London... It was inevitable...
Even so, according to current reports, the damage caused by this attack is pretty trivial compared to some of the IRA blasts from the 70s / 80s... Hey Soulboy... Haven't heard from you in a while - Are you still there... Are you OK??? Any good photos??? Cheers, John

i agree its too well planned to be conducted right after G8 or the Olympics.
news.com says eyewitesses have up 90 deaths. i can't believe there're still playing the sport on 7 Life's pretty straight without drifting

Too well planned?
The G8 summit wasn't just planned overnight Darb, as for mobile networks being shutdown, mate says it's unlikely (he has parents in the UK on holiday same problem), he believes it's just network overload. edit: having said that just heard that they have on the news in london Last edited by kipper on Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:07 pm, edited 1 time in total.

shocking, reminds me when i got up and turned tv on when 9/11 happened and i thought it was some movie, but then realised it was real.
I guess it is only a matter of time before before this type of terrorism rares it's head again. D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

My sister is working at one of the hospitals as a student doctor, so she has her hands full. My other sister is in Central London as I write this and is planning on getting the F**K out asap!!
My dad is in London, but cant get home as all transport is disabled. And I was in Kings Cross not 3 weeks ago!! This is all a little bit too close to home. Utter utter bastards!
I just did some research.
Want something odd, and more than likely done on purpose by whoever orchestrated this terrible event? 9/11 First attack occurred at 8.46 AM Eastern Standard Time on the North Tower London Today First incident occurred at 8.49 AM, according to News Ltd. Any guesses as to who might claim responsibility? Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Rokkstar, have you got through on the phones? I have only tried twice (don't want to overload the system just for my concern when there are really important calls) but was unable to get through. The same thing happened in 9/11, the only way I found out my brother was ok was by email.

Well I think Scotland Yard or the News folk have already put it down to the Al Qaeda faction that was responsible for the Madrid Bombings as it was very very similar.
Oh and my parents were saying, it's so typical for them to strike while everyones gaurd was down post olympic bid win. I said that the polices guard was up, but in the wrong spot (edinburgh). Last edited by kipper on Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:25 pm, edited 1 time in total.

email from 1 of 3 i have in london (also have a client who touched down last night there, guess he wont be doing as much business as intended.) ;
Hi All, Just wanted you all to know that I'm okay and that this is having a very profound affect on everyone here. We are in virtual lockdown in the office and the everyone is feeling very shaken. My office is very close to all of this and I was on the Central line and past through several of the affected stations shortly before it all happened. Many people in the office were actually on the tube when it happened and have been badly shaken. I have attached another email address which is easier to get me on. I hope everyone is well and that no one they know is affected by this. Lots of love,
I know it probably sounds quite heartless, but I said to my Mum that this might be a trial run or a test. The people behind this are very calculated and strategic. I mean this could be just an attempt at moving security forces away from Scotland to co-ordinate an attack there.

i am not in the slightest bit suprised this happened, or that it will happen again. As long as we westeners continue to rummage around other peoples countries and throw acid into hornets nests, we will get stung.
not the time or place kipper. No idea where that came from, but anyway, over 6 beers and a few hours id love to have a chat, but im done with internet forum debates so lets save that road for another day
This is so sad.
I hope all D70 members and their families who are in the London area are safe and well. Anyone targetting innocent people just have to be utter evil bastards. There is no justification anywhere for this and no god would ever sanction or approve the killing of and maiming of innocents. Graham
That's irrelevant, darb.
And regardless, yes, this will happen again, and I would garner a bet that Australia would be the next planned attack, especially on the basis of the countries that allied themselves with the States (not that I'm suggesting this was the US's fault in any way) tend to be attacked. Unfortunately, Australia would be helpless for an attack. Sydney especially. I'm not even going to say why. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Hello folks,
mood around here (manchester) is grim though i just got some good news - the friends i stayed with when visiting live8 at weekend both work in the affected they have literally just confirmed they are ok. I'm pretty much crying with relief. My thoughts are with those of you waiting to hear news of friends and relatives Chris
I feel great sympathy for those affected by this terrible act. Like war, terrorism always leads to senseless loss and damage to civilian targets. Will we all never learn!

I don't think it's a manner of learning but rather an issue of tolerance for other people and other people's views.

Hi guys, Don't know if you have heard about the bombs in London. Just to let you know I am fine - although one of the bombs went off 5 minutes from my house at the tube station I go to - luckily I came to work early this morning... Hope all is well. Anna
Darb, while you say it might be down to interference in other countries that have caused this, I beg to differ. These individuals are twisted and sick, and would find some reason to do what they do. This hatred has come about well before you and I, and even your grandparents were born. So I don't think it has anything to do with todays interference in country policies.

One of my friends online I'm talking to is talking to someone in the UK and is telling me that a suicide bomber has been shot there.
I'm still trying to confirm it. That was my original idea as to what caused the bus explosion. The disturbing part that got me on the bus explosion was, for the amount of firepower needed to do to that bus what it did, what would it possibly do to flesh? The answer is something that even me, a disturbing individual, doesn't want to think about. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Don't worry Leigh, while you might have issues, I even thought the same when I saw the twisted metal in most of the news feeds.
On a side note, anybody just seen Tony Blairs statement with the G8 members behind him? Did anybody else think that Bush was thinking to himself "ok, who can I bomb next?" and Jacque was going "Ok, you've been bombed, you have the olympics, but ya food still sucks!". I dunno, they just didn't seem very sad and mournfull to me. Darryl (aka Kipper)

I have been working all evening and have just got home to see the news on the TV.
My mum and sister are down in Cornwall and as such are safe but my thoughts go to the many friends that I have in London. To kill innocents is the act of cowards and can never be condoned Chris

My condolences to everyone affected by this terrible disaster. Best wishes to all on this forum who have family or friends over in London.
There are a lot of other people who will be affected by this senseless act of a few individuals, which probably stemmed from senseless decisions by a few individuals but I'm not going to get into that on a forum. Also interesting to see the different types of responses from other forums I frequent...by far this is forum contains the most mature and rational comments. While watching my wife feed my little boy tonight, my thoughts went out to those poor mothers & little innocent children on those buses & trains.
Imagine just being somewhere and that happening May those blood sucking fool Terrerist BASTARDS burn in HELL for internity. We are so lucky here, So far Mic.
Mic, as much as it pains me to think this way, we're not out of the woods and we never will be.

I agree and respect this quote from Gandhi. Have anyone thought or share the suffering about the terrible lost of lately bombing from the Yank's plane over the civilian in Iraq? Are all 100% of those people got killed in Iraq or other countries doing any wrong to their people or people around the world, same as the casualties of the London bombing last night? NO, they didn't, they all are innocent people We are unfortunately living in the "WAR" time, which is gungho by all the hawkes and the warmongers, why should we go to war? why should we send our troops to Iraq and Afghanistan? lessons of many years ago from VN lately, million people died, no ones learned that and finally who cares! Our Australia is another target of the bastards, when, where and how, are the answers not from us, from the people who are attending at the G8. It's the similar game: you like to get rid of cockroaches or mice, you killed one of them, a thousand more will come Birddog114

Why should they be sad and mournful? They're happy indeed, cos they know they will make more monies out of this incident, our sweat & blood build their wealth and titles. Am still sharing the lost and my thoughts are always with all the vitims, their friends, family. God bless you all. Birddog114

London BombingsDuring World War two the actor/singer Sir Noel Coward, was outside Victoria station after a bad night of bombing there was glass and debris everywhere, and as he watched the people going about their daily life he was so moved by their tenacity to withstand the termoil he wrote a song called Londons Pride, here is a verse of it,
''In our city darkened now, street and square and crescent, We can feel our living past in our shadowed present, Ghosts beside our starlit Thames Who lived and loved and died Keep throughout the ages London Pride" Norm Nikon boy Norman
For what it is worth, to those with imminent travel plans, these attacks are usually not the start of several similar attacks over a short time span. Look at 9/11 and Madrid for example, there is a massive security net everywhere afterwards, but no further attacks seem to happen for some time.
