Picture of the Week 31.5.05This week's POTW was a very easy choice for me this time around and I think it was echoed by all the very favourable comments made by the forum members. Congratulations to Pirostitch for his excellent shot of the downhill bike
(original thread here http://www.d70users.net/viewtopic.php?t=5900&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=downhill&start=0). With the talent and amazing capabilities of our members + the extra ordinary D70 I feel really proud to be a part of the forum and witness the 'work' of our members! Again, congrats to Pirostitch. As already stated, a possible decisive moment.... Geoff

Hey Piro,
I did'nt remember who's shot this was but I definately remembered the shot. To me it was one of the best images I have seen on this site EVER! I even showed a workmate this one the other day when it popped up again in the forum and said, "How good is this". Well done, you've inspired me to play with your technique on the weekend. Sorry to be a POTW hog but I have just had another serious look at this image and the focal point seems to me to be the riders eyes. They are wide open (although behind goggles) and peircing, totally focussed on the landing ahead. Even better third time around. Thanks Piro!!

Thanks everyone for the great comments! I've really appreciated all your comments and encouragement immensely.
Up till this point or this photo, I've never really considered my own work seriously but now seeing the reaction from everyone I've shown the photo to, I'm contemplating going up a gear in terms of pursuing photography further...whether that means enrolling in a photography school or doing more work, I'm not quite sure yet Will wait and see. I understand that basing all these decisions just from POTW is a bit crazy, but considering that each person on these forums are my photographic peers I've taken each comment on board seriously. Anyway, fun time/speech time is over...gotta go back to coding Thanks again everyone and happy snapping Cheerio, Wayne
Piro,
I'm glad this photo keeps popping up because it really turns my crank (pun intended) Keep this up and get more similar shots, as well as other styles. This is a great picture to begin your portfolio, and will anchor the rest of your stuff. Congratulations on POTW, but this ones' the monthly and yearly winner as well IMO. Unreal how the eyes are framed and bright and in focus and the rest of his face is hidden. So great. Keep it up.
very impressive pic, and a further great reason why the POTW is a fantastic idea. This is one that, if not for POTW, I would have missed. There are just too many posts to keep up with nowadays. Well done Piro - I feel this ups the level of POTW, and must have made the job of the mods really easy this week *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
I nearly fell off my seat when I saw this photo and initially thought that it was an excellent Photoshop production... When I read that it was actually done in camera I nearly fell off my seat again...
For me the measure of a good photo is if I feel compelled to show it to others and I have shown this one to quite a few people - all of whom have been impressed... I hope you tracked the rider down Piro - I'm sure they would love a copy of this... Cheers, John

I am just amazed all done in the camera, just brilliant. Cheers, Terry "Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn't make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel." -Peter Adams, Sydney 1978
Chuan,
Not a problem for me. Just please ask them to respect the IP of the photographer, which I'm sure goes without saying. g.

Cool, I've alerted the ed of one of the mags to the original post & to your (Wayne's) home page. Let's see what he says…I can still ask around if he doesn't have a place for it. That photo deserves a wide print audience, that's for sure.

Thanks Chuan I've been trying to contact some MTB magazines as well but haven't had the time due to work commitments
