A day at the beach

Hi all - these a a couple of photos of my nieces at the beach at Seaforth (1/2 hour from Mackay). If anyone gets a chance to get up there for a break - take it..... quiet, peaceful and beautiful. What more could you want?

I like the first one too What lens was used for that? was it cropped at all or did you frame it all through the viewfinder?

I like them both actually!

The first photo cuts the edge of the water off in the top right, which is slightly annoying to look at for long periods of time (things like that grind away @ me).

Any chance I could get some EXIF data on the second shot???? Trying to learn the portrait game and that's not a bad one to take note of

I like the composition of the first shot, a great deal. Tough lighting conditions, but it's a very cool shot.

Second shot does it for me..big time! Gorgeous big eyes, catch lights, beautiful expression and a pretty decent composition. Maybe Portrait orientation would have been a little more comfortable and traditional but I like the crop as is.

I have to say the first shot does nothing for me whereas I love the second one - a great natural candid. Give a group of people two choices and...

Both shots were taken with the Tamron 28-300mm.

the first: f6.3, 1/4000, focal length 300mm (35mm equiv 450mm), handheld, (slightly cropped, but only just)
the second: f5, 1/2000, focal length 78mm (35mm equiv 117mm)
(shot as is)

both shots were adjusted for levels, and contrast only.

Thanks again everyone - I ususally shy away from taking 'people' shots.

The first one is good. I like the composition and the way you have done it. Gives a nice sense of her being all alone on a quiet beach. If you were building a photo album page of the day at the beach, it'd be good to use for a 'location' type shot.

The second one is a great shot and one that I imagine you/the parents will look at again and again in years to come as she grows up. Possibly could do with a little brightening in the face (just a tad), but other than that, love it.

Thanks Robboh. The second shot is all the more special because she is one little girl that is very hard to get a photo of. Her sister (shot 1) loves the camera, but Erin usually does the bolt. It was the first time she has actually seen me with the camera, walked up and stood there long enough for me to get a shot !! both my mum and sister-in-law cried when they saw the photo.
