Arthur, the rarest item is the 300/4, when searching I would look for that first.

I think with everyone looking you will catch them Arthur.Unless they use it for private use which i doubt,if they try flog it of anywhere they will be sprung as it is a fairly rare item.I will keep a look out in the Perth papers for some cheap gear over here.Hope this helps Cheers Stephen
I know Arthur lives near Boxhill from what I understand. Seeing as you believe it's locals that have seen you using these items, I'd be inclined to check the local pawn shops (somebody already mentioned checking pawn shops).
ps. pawn is so easy to mispell. Darryl (aka Kipper)

HI
Hi Stephen thanks. regards, Arthur
HII was showing my wife all your replies and encouragements and I can tell you that both of us are very appreciative. If any positive that can come out of this, is that we know that there are scores of nice, friendly and thoughtful australians out there. It's just those few black sheep that spoilt everything.
Thanks again everyone. cheers, Arthur
So sorry to hear this Arthur.
I have been robbed four times in the past and i know what it feels like, its not so much the goods taken its the fact that you just dont feel safe in your own house is the hardest thing to come to terms wtih. Unfortunatly its a common thing to happen to most people now, all i can suggest is to get contents insurance then at least that way you wont be out of pocket replacing all the taken things. Changing locks and installing alarms will only stop honest people, if they want something they will get it no matter how well you try and protect it. Its just such a low act IMO and i hope you and your wife can come to terms with it and brush it off and not let it affect you too much. Jamie
HiHi Jamie,
I am afraid that the damage has already been done. I have never been robbed etc.. in my life till now. Just 11 months in OZ and the unexpected happened. I realize that it is the flip side of the coin. While this country allows so much freedom, the flip side is lawlessness. And if the citizens do not help and work closely with the police, we will be the one losing out in the long run. regards, Arthur
Sorry to hear about that Arthur. Hope the stuff turns up somewhere soon and you get your stuff back in one piece and in working order.
The thief/thieves have created a very bad cause for themselves and the effects will happen sooner or later Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Thats terrible, hope they catch the buggers and find your stuff

i only hope this story ends up with great news gear returned - theif caught and sent to court lets all hope it works out in the end look after your family..they'll need your support in a time like this Arthur
The 300 AF-S is a great lens with that such a price! compact, easy to handholding, can walk around with it.
Not so many of them in Australia market, Maxwell doesn't have them for 6 months now, I don't think they bring them in cos their price is "cut throat" so not many people can afford. The best thing is sort it out from overseas. Yeocsa, For you to recover (buying) back all those items are the nightmare and caused hardship to your financial and feeling. Let them go, relax and when you're ready send me a PM, I may help you in part of it. Birddog114

If it's any consolation, at least in stealing a lens as (relatively) rare as the 300, they're making it more difficult for themselves to offload their stolen gear.
Any such lens now appearing on the SH market anywhere in Oz should be considered to be suspect, and fully investigated prior to purchase. g.

It must be a local job. Check trading post and other local pawn shops and ebay.
ps. always change you locks when you are renting, just change the internal part, replace it whne you move. Little story, 2 years ago saw this lens I wanted in the trading post, called the guy up, he gave me an address (single number) when I got there it was a block of units. I called him, he said he will be there in 10mins. Within that 10min he actually waked passed me (to check me out) He came with a bag of camera stuff.....I did not buy any off it.
Hi
Hi Thanks Birddog. Will need to order some stuff from you soon. I can trust you and you have a great reputation here. There's no point in dwelling on them. I have already moved on. If any of the stuff is recover it will be bonus. If not, they have been written off. I will have to do some more projects to earn $ to replace them. Like many of you said, the 300F4 is rare - so it is going to be difficult for them to dispose of it. If i do hope any kind of recover - it will be AFS 300F4. I am thankful that no one is hurt. Most of things I need are still in tact - it could be worst and I am thankful for that. So now to be prudent, I am putting in place all the precautions. regards, Arthur
Re: Hi
Arthur, Beleive me in countries with much less freedom or no freedom at all situation is much worse and crimes are more brutal because people more desperate and not afraid of anything - they are already living in a jail. Walking night time through the streets in Russia I was always ready for fight. For a some period of life I had to carry gas-gun with me wich was a replica of real combat gun So, don't take it as a real damage. It's just a damage to your wallet - unpleasant, disgusting but you're OK, no harm to you or relatives been done. Take it easy, mate Mikhail

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate loss Arthur. I noticed your D70 was with a serial number destined to be sold in South-east Asia. Perhaps informing Maxwell (if they care at all) could be the go - if it eventually finds its way to them, as it would very easily stand out amongs the Aussie serial numbered cameras they no doubt deal with daily.
HiThanks. Please do that. My D70 has a round rubber eyecup that is very hard to get here. Those on sales are square ones. There's no many AFS 300F4 around, so if you spot chances are high that it could be mine.
regards, Arthur
Can I just add my commiserations. I actually have first hand experience of the feeling having had $8000 plus of gear stolen in Moresby, and that was from a car while I was in a shop for no more than 5 minutes. Nevertheless you do get over these things, just think of the D70s you are going to aim for now.
In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.

Hi
Hi Just to add on. Gary and Birddog helped me to get the D2H out of customs too. I was lucky that i wasn't charged for custom duties, GST etc.. Right now, I am focused on finishing a few more projects so that i can have enough funds to get one lens and a flash! regards, Arthur
Arthur, what lenses are you left with?
