Please ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is. It's nice price tag but wait to see till the end of the game. BTW, you won't get much benefits of the AI-S lens mounted on the D70, especially when you mainly use it for birding photos.

Re: Why stacking TC's may make sense
TC14E and TC17E cannot be stacked - front element of one will touch rear element of the other. So only choices are 1.4+2.0 or 1.7+2.0. To use stacked TCs on a 500mm will require more than a tripod to keep the combination stable - personally a 2.0 converter is as far as I would go with the 500mm if I really can't get any closer. You end up with f/8 maximum aperture, and that's really limit for AF in good light (don't know for sure how well that works with D70, but works well with D2H/X), and if you add a 1.4 or 1.7 you end up with f/11 or worse - no more AF and very difficult to focus manually (dark viewfinder!). Also, remember that on a D70 you're talking about 1500mm effective focal length. I honestly wouldn't know what tripod to use to keep that stable - you almost need a full length support for the whole combination. Hope this helps, Christophe. Thanks cybersonic!
I totally agreed and had few tries on those combinations and those ideas are what I advised to kipper in my previously posts of this thread! I have the D2X/H/D100/D70 and I did not see any benefits for any user of D70 camera in spending their hard earned cash in doing that way. But as you known, someone will be mad doing this Birddog114

I think we are underestimating Kipper's enthusiasm and dedication to this style of photography. Kipper jump past lowly tripods up to a pentapod, as shown here from Bjorn Rorslett site. He uses the Sachtler tripods and pentapods. You cant beat the stability of a pentapod
