Where was your D70 made in?

Where was your D70 made in?

Postby informer on Sun Jul 17, 2005 1:10 pm

My friend's D70 was made in Thailand, though he bought it in Japan.

Just wondering if everyone else's is the same.

All Nikon D70's were manufactured in Nikon's, Thailand Plant.

My D70 is in for warranty repair but i just checked my D70s and it's also made in Thailand. Not uncommon for Japanese brands to be made in Bangkok, Malaysia, Korea and the Phillipines.

Yep, all D70's are made at Auttaya plant in Thailand.

No, quite the opposite. Thailand is probably one of the most expensive places you can buy a D70 and I suspect the rest of Nikon equipment. The reason for this escapes me.

None of D70 made in Japan!
Only Nikon pro bodies and few P&S made in Japan so far.
China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Iraq or Afghanistan are not the issues, provide that you have all Nikon QC and 12 months warranty.
Goods made from Japan do not guarantee the "No fail" system.

Hi Birdy what is P&S mode?
the kit lens performs magnificently even if the build is a bit rickety
it was a pleasant surprise

my next walkaround lens will definately be the 17-35mm 2.8. Now that gem is made in Japan right?

Yes, it's cheaper there if you know one the guy in that Nikon's plant and he be able to snick one out
Otherwise the cheaper place is HKG or Singapore if you can stop by.

Singapore?

Hmmm....

Speaking of warranties, do you guys have some kind of insurance to protect your cameras? Does the warranty cover that or do I need to apply for some extended warranty?

Just wondering if I should do that in case my boat overturns and the camera gets wet or I drop it.

If you do happen to buy in Thailand though, make sure you get the VAT refund...

Thanks, I don't think its worth going to Thailand to save a few bahts.

I think Singapore is really competitive in prices, check this deal out :

http://www.bargaincity.com.sg/digicam/p ... ID=DGCB026

$1410 SGD = $1115 AUD!

That's got to be the best deal I've seen (includes 1GB card, extra battery and case). Pity I'm not going to Singapore either.
