Here are the details of what we're going to be doing over the weekend of August 5-6, which, for those who haven't been paying attention, will be our first anniversary weekend get together.

First up, it's the...

Friday Night Dinner.

Saturday Morning

1. Lavender Bay:
A walk around the Luna Park environs, walk across the Harbour Bridge, where you will get to climb the South Pylon ($5) and you get a beautiful look out over the harbour... perfect for people who have never seen it or just love it and want a new place to look at it from ... onwards to Circular Quay and possibly The Sydney Opera House (time permitting) with lunch possibly at The Rocks. If you're looking for a picturesque view of Sydney's greatest assets, this is it!

Essentially, this can hold an infinite amount of people, but to make it managable, it'll probably hold around 10-20. A fair bit of walking involved, (perhaps up to 5klm) but every step photogenic, including inside the bridge pylons!

2. Photoshop Tutorial:
A Photoshop tutorial held at Birdy's!
Umm... you learn how to use Photoshop, under the expert direction of Matt K...

Because of space limitations, this activity can only hold around 6-8 people. Book early.

3. Blackwattle Bay - Heritage Fleet in Sydney
Explore Sydney's maritime past in a very different way. At Blackwattle Bay volunteer enthusiasts work at rehabilitating some of the older and more historic craft that used to play the various waterways around Australia. The James Craig is here, as are many others. Sheepie is the coordinator for this activity.

Once again, because of space limitations, this can only hold around 10-15 people. Again, book early for this one!

4. Centennial Park Duck Shoot:
Centennial Park has got to be one of Sydney's most beautiful parks... located in the Eastern Suburbs, this park is filled with lakes and trees and grass and all that other stuff that we call the environment.
It's also filled with birds, especially ducks, so you can do some duck shooting (photographic) if need be. A perfect place for Sydney locals to bring their dogs, I might add.

And for those looking for a little adventure, Centennial Park is just a few minutes from the Bondi Junction Westfield, and Bondi Beach is just few minutes closer to New Zealand.

One again, much like Lavender Bay, this one is pretty much an infinite group.

Saturday Afternoon

Okay, you can go home, relax... retreat back to your hotel to prepare for the big AA dinner that night, or you can...

1. Minimeet!:
It's a minimeet. Yup. Special isn't it? It's pretty much the only thing that occurs on a Saturday that won't leave you with an empty wallet.
Okay... I lied. It probably will.

At the minimeet, you can learn how to perform a sensor clean, as shown by Matt K.
There'll be talk and you can play with the goodies and learn from those of us who think we're pro's and those of us who know we're pro's.
There'll probably be a spot of food and a drop of coffee (there's always coffee) and there's Birddog and probably gstark and the rest of the main bunch for you to hang out with because... that's what's cool these days.

Saturday Night

The AA dinner at Mancini's... just up the road from Birddog's.
There'll be pizza and pasta and probably salad (damnit) and I'm guessing there'll be a touch of wine to go with it.
There'll probably be some speeches so bring a pillow, as well as a brand new D70s to give away to the winner of the Photo Challenge!!!
You might even get a free surprise just for showing up...

Sunday

1. Portrait Shoot:
Because we know that a lot of you are heading home early on the Sunday, those of you that stay will (hopefully) be treated to a portrait shoot.
You can get those "people" skills up to scratch and shoot something without feathers or trees for once.

2. Lighting workshop:
Lights, camera, action. Light tents, too. Come and play and learn about light, and how it affects your images.


For those of you who haven't booked yet for this weekend, after seeing this... you may want to.

And for those of you that can't come, we're going to try to rig (I stress the word "try") a video feed of the AA speeches and ceremonies so you can see what you were missing out on.

Saturday dinner: $28.50
(-1/2 price for whomever brings children with ($14.00) Under 5 is no cost.)

I don't yet know; we need to finalise a location for them; I'm hoping that we can combine some aspects of them, but we'll see how we go.

I'd slightly be inclined to give preference to the interstaters for these, given the timing pressures that they might be under with return flights and all.

Hey I thought of mentioning this - but forgot to on the night; and this seemed perfect to bring up. What about a night meet? Would it be possible to schedule one somewhere? Fri or Sat night? I'm sure the interstaters, out-of-towners and even locals might wanna attend one - in the same flavour as the previous one on May 22nd.

Good idea, but it's subject to a basic design flaw: we have a dinner scheduled for each of the nights in question.

Depending upon the timeframes involved, we could possibly handle a twilight shoot before dinner on Saturday, but the times involved in terms of finishing at point A and getting to dinner would be less than relaxed.

Don't forget, too, that we probably need to allow people some time to get freshened up before dinner.

Chi, great idea but probably the biggest issue may be distance in Sydney traffic from photogenic spots at night to the dinners.

Night out shoot for Friday night is no a good idea.
- The restaurant is in Hurstville, traffic on Friday evening + require time for travelling to.
- After dinner, then we all drunk, and may throw all the cameras to the harbour.
- Most people finish work at 5:30 or 6:00, they need get a change or refresh before get into the dinner.

Apparently, humans used to beat animals with clubs and rocks and whatnot to eat them.

Times have changed but the techniques are still the same.

These days, drunk humans throw expensive cameras into the water in an attempt to kill the fish that don't exist in Sydney Harbour.
