It was a very photogenic afternoon at Walsh Bay last friday.
Taken with the kit lens and at the risk of sounding repetitive is a fantastic lens!

100% agree with your comments on the kit lens! Those shots are beautiful too, love the framing and the light... The third one is magnificent and the last one looks even wider than the 18mm end would allow!

That cloud is awesome. I love the way you have made it appear larger by the perspective of the buildings and the SHB. Great work.

Not to start an US V's Them, but I thionk the Kit lens is one of things that made the D70 stand out voer the Canon 300D.

As your pics show its a great lens.

Stunning examples.

Love em.

Thanks Everyone, it's a pleasure sharing, I hope my work helps people in a way.

Killkoalla, the cloud shot was taken at 18mm, which produces a dramatic perspective

Stormygirl, I will soon be posting a composition tutorial, there are some simple guidlines like aligning lines to a corner of the frame to make an image look more composed, and many other tips on lighting and tonal balance. In the meantime if you strudy my images you can learn a few things.

Great weather always helps though one should always chase good light.
Rain, water and reflections also adds a dynamic dimension to a scene.

one trick i like is shooting at 400th of a second in bright light f8 ISO100 white balance 5600K and over produces a high contrast moody image

Wendell

These shots blow me away. They are by far the best group of shots I've seen you post. Makes me lust for a D2X (and some of your composition skills  )

Wendell,
It's been said as above, but I have to say these shots really stand out as some of your best work...and your eye for detail/composition is great! Keep up the excellent work, and if the D2X ever gets too heavy for you, I will gladly look after it for you :).

Great work, especially your use of the 18mm in the last of these images.

And that's an interesting idea about the moody settings.

For purposes of comparison

Postby rjlhughes on Sun Jul 24, 2005 9:03 pm

I havedn't used the Canon kit lens much, well hardly at all, but thought I'd try to find a similar subject to give people a comparison - similar detail and skyscape.

I suspect it'll confirm the beliefs of our friends with Nikons.
