How to set up a printer profile in CS2?

I just don't seem to be doing something right.

I'm trying to get the colours on my monitor to be the same as the colours when I print. I print at a lab that uses a Fuji Frontier. So I downloaded a colour profile Frontier.ICC and placed it in windows\system32\spool\drivers\color. I also put a copy in program files\common files\adobe\color\profiles and in same folder \recommended just to be sure. But nowhere in photoshop can a I see any reference to the Fuji Frontier profile when I try to assign profile. According to photoshop help, all you need to do is put the icc file in the windows\system32... folder which I've done. I even restarted the PC.

I'm probably doing something dumb, so can anyone please enlighten me?

In Photoshop goto View\Proof Setup\Custom...
This will open a little dialogue box with the title 'Customize Proof Options'
Click the 'Load...' button and locate the profile of the device...
You can then select this in the proof setup dropdown as required...

As a side note. Do you have your monitor calibrated? As non-calibrated monitor is the major cause of colour variances from screen to print.

As for the callibration, no, not yet. I'm going to rent a spyder over the weekend and calibrate my nice new 19" lcd.

I've been told there is a local photo outlet (Mid City Camera World) that rents Spyder for $10 a night. Sounds like a steal to me, so I'm going to give it a try. Sure sounds cheaper than spending hundreds of $$s to buy. Mind you, if it comes to pass that they don't rent one, then I might be forced to part with the $$s. Which would just mean the 80-200 f2.8 is further away.

I know its a pain john but its worth it when you can rely on your screen to match what you get back from your printer.. if you cant rent one then try an find someone you can borrow it off every once in a while... thats the thing you must remember its not just a set and forget, your monitor should be calibrated at least once a month to ensure it is showing true colours... if you where up this way i'd offer to lend you me Sypder2pro but surely you can find someone with one down there.

Michael, I'm still having trouble with this process.

When I go to view\proof setup\custom it opens the dialogue box. Then I click the load button to locate the profile, but it is looking for a proof setup file (.psf). All I have is a .icc file.

Do I have to do something with the .icc file to make it a .psf file? Or do I need to get something other than the .icc file?
