Postby stephen on Sun Jul 24, 2005 11:32 pm

As title says i have my card reader plugged into usb2 but im not sure if its working at full speed. It takes me around 5 full mins to download half a gig of photos to the computer.Does that sound right or not.I have had a usb warning coming up periodically telling me a usb2 is plugge into a usb1 port(i installed the usb2 so that explains a lot  )

If you get the chance buy yourself a Lexar FireWire Compact Flash card reader ... it should cost you about $45 .... I am now downloading a Gig in 2 minutes.

While you're plugging your card reader into a USB2 port, the card reader itself is not a USB2 reader - hence the warning message (which has got to be one the most inane warnings Windoze issues).

You need to buy a card reader that specifically says it's a USB2 one.

If you're going to go for a firewire reader, make sure that your pc supports firewire with a firewire port; most pcs do not have firewire, so please act with caution here.

You need to u/g the patches to the USB 2.0 if your PC is with USB 2.0 ports, then a download from MS will fix the issue, if not, then go after the add on USB2.0 PCI card if your PC still have an empty slot.

We have two of 'em, but I still can't think of a good reason to say something like that. :)

Thanks guys although i think birdy was the only one to hit it on the head.It IS a usb2 card reader(sandisk) and i installed it to the instructions(pretty poor) but im having these warnings coming up periodically. What kind of time should it take to D/L half a gig in a fully operational usb2 port???.
My comp did not come with a usb2 port so i bought a 4 port usb2 plug in and installed to the instructions, altough i think that may be my down fall

Any more info on this would be great

Maximum D/L time of 512Mb card on USB 2.0 device and USB 2.0 port is 2 minutes with the D70/ NEF or JPEG.

OK, I also assuming you have installed the USB2.0 PCI card into the system or your PC comes with the USB 2.0 onboard.
goto:
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupda ... x?ln=en-us

And it will search all available patches suitable for your installed OS,
After the search, it comes up with number of update patches including USB 2.0.

Next one: after finishing updating and go to control panel, double click "System", click on "device manager" you'll see the "yellow exclamation mark" at the USB, right click on it with the pull down menu, click on properties, choose the tab "Driver" and click on "update driver", it will do it for you all.
