Thanks Glen, What's your observation? Birddog114

Thanks Glen! I saw this link before but I didn't post it somehow (forgotten, actually)
After reviewing this link and couple of others my opinion now closer to negative about this lens. Pros: + Fast lens + Very sharp + Cheap for this sort of lens Cons: - strong barreling - spectacular highlights are in strange form - octagonal but squezeed from one side So, I'm seriously thinking to lust something else .... Hilop, A cheap lens is not an excellent lens especially at f1.4 Lust the 28/1.4 There's one simple answer: the Nikkor 28/1.4 has a hand-ground aspheric element. Hand grinding is outrageously expensive, but it means that the lens will be sharp wide open. IOW, the Nikkor 28/1.4 is much more like the 58/1.2 NOCT (another lens that was incredibly expensive) than it is like the 50/1.4. ` Birddog114

Hilop, Here's more of Nikkor 28/1.4. Save up for it and you'll never regret. From another source: "The Nikon 28 1.4 is simply the best prime lens for walking around made. It can handle all lighting situations better than any other lens, is extreamly sharp wide open and is a 42mm lens on a D2H/ D2X. This lens can be handheld at 1/10 second without a problem. I, like many others who own this lens know it is not a "specialty" lens used only for low light, but an extreamly versitile lens for any occasion." Birddog114

I have no doubts about quality and versatility of this lens but mortgage pulls my saving capasity down. What's average price for 28 1.4, BTW? Mikhail

What's mortgage???????????????????????? It's price is around or over 2K if you're lucky can find one O/S. No new stock for more than 12 months now Birddog114

I was trying to go through it Birddog, looks ok for the price, but as you say doeesn't compare to the legend but neither does the price. This guy said he will do a series so that will be interesting.

More I read it may not deliver the satisfaction one might hope for at $600. Anyone want to buy one and if not satisfied sell it to me s/h for $300? Probably a s/h buy

Sounds strange, but we need a place to live and where to bring lenses I was living in rent for last 8 years and completely fed up with it So, wonderful 28 1.4 have to wait. BTW, it's out of stock since we've bought our home. Coincidense? Mikhail

Keep your watch on eBay, now or sooner you'll find one at less than that, perhaps will be from our Sigmand Friends Have you seen the series of test of brickwall? Birddog114

MCWB, The $600.00 cost is what it delivered! if that lens cost less than the Nikkor 28/1.4 couple hundred buck than the answer maybe difference. "You got what you paid" ain't it true? Birddog114

Um ... Yes .... and No ... Nikkons 50mm 1.4 and 1.8 are relatively cheap but both are quite good lens. Especially, 1.8 for 200 bucks is a gem Mikhail

Cos It's Nikkor not Sigma! For your budget wide angle lens w/ low light ability, as you mentioned and your impressions go for the Sigma 30/1.4 Birddog114
