After the voting finishes the gallery will be open for comment/critique and then you can all go for your life!

I strongly suggest you give your own photo top marks... I have seen comps come down to the wire REAL REAL close...

going along with what Sheepie was saying:

What happens to the photos that I don't vote for? Do they just get assigned the lowest rating? Reason I ask is, by not voting, does that disadvantage/advantage the photos that do get voted on, even if they get the lowest vote rating, ie "It is a picture"?

i.e. by not voting for an image, you are effectively giving it a vote of 5 or 6... So it's really worth voting for each image...

Kind of... you are giving it its average mark.... so unless you think like the average of everyone else you should vote

Another quick note: The ranks are names only... basically *Awesome frame it and sell it* gives the image a 10 and *its a picture* gives the image a 1

I think the final score is an average of the votes cast for that image. So not voting won't give it a 1 nor will it give it a 10, it won't affect it at all.

I found the theme really hard to come up with something for. I couldn't define the 'desisive moment'. I think part of the trouble is, as mentioned, that it will be such a personal interpretation.

Everyone should vote for every photo - it is a grading system. It is also generally accepted that you will give your own photo the highest grading (although not compulsory!). If everyone does this, then it seems to work out about right

Just to be clear - voting is open to any full member of D70Users.com - even people who didn't enter photos in the competition...
Even if you found it difficult to come up with a photo to enter, there is absolutely no excuse for not voting...

All you need to do is apply to MHD for a user name to be able to logon to the potofgrass site...

I'd like to see 100 people voting to make it really representative...

That's how I see it too Brad, although I try and see how each image might fit the theme. I agree about the quality of the images though, top notch!

I vote on two notches:

The first is how the picture fits the theme.

The second is how good said picture is.

If it fits the theme, it's automatically not the worst rating...

Strange how we are all different. I vote in several passes. First pass - just on how it fits the theme - don't take image quality etc into account. Next pass I bump up or down based on the quality of the image. Then I tinker while looking at all the images to make sure I've been consistent. One outcome of this process is to get to the top the image must firstly match the theme (somehow) AND secondly be a good capture.

That's a part of the fun of the challenge, though. Quite a few of the minds here are .... out there .... and any subject will always be open to interpretation.

So ... keep a very open mind, and have fun. After all, that's what it's all about.

There is less than 0.1 points now between 1st and 2nd... and equal 2nd place is tied! (the system gives 3 digits, ie x.yz)

Actually I'm somewhat in the middle... including my own ( of course ) I figured there were maybe 6 or 8 shots that complied entirely with my idea of what a photo of a 'decisive moment' would be.. but I will admit that a couple of images got a higher mark because of the quality of the shot, and because I'm sure it fits in someone elses definition.

Well, that's really up to each individual to define, isn't it. It is a broad term. I said that there are only 2-3 images, *I* would class as 'decisive moment', but that is *my* view. Luckily, there are plenty of people voting, so hopefully their definition of a decisive moment is much broader

It would be interesting at the end of voting for the owner of each picture to actually go and define why they thought their photo(s) was/were a "Decisive Moment".

This is my first exposure to a comp on D70users.com and I must say that I find it more interesting then the Ashes

First of all, I'd like to state up front that I did NOT enter a pic in this competition, although I've entered all the previous comps I was around for.

I made a "descisive" decision not to enter as I felt that my pics either met the technical standard but not the theme, or visa versa... Therefore I will vote without fear or favour.... but I'm struggling to see the theme in many of the submissions. You've got to be in it to win it, so all those entries that have no obvious (to me) relationship to the theme have more chance than me, so good luck to them

On a VERY good note: The average voter numbers for past comps has been between 30-40... after less than 24hrs the average is about 22!
