Pictures with my new 50mm 1.4

Hi,

I've been using my new 50mm 1.4 that I got at the mini-meet. Really love it. It certainly is sharp. I find it nice not to have to worry about the zoom, just move closer or further, the old fashion zoom ;)

Here is one of that same rusty bit that John H did earlier with his 50mm. DIfferent time of day, so colours very different and I'm still learning lots.

This one was a bench that was interesting. Couldn't fit it all in, if I backed up any further, I'd fall over the edge and it would just be another picture of a bluish sky :-) Still liked the way it came out.

I really, really like the 2nd shot. It has a certain feel that appeals to me.
I think the first one is way too dark on the subject matter. A quick correction (I hope I'm not being too bold):

Thanks Marcus,

it is much better. I was trying to adjust it just like that, but wasn't quite getting that result. I certainly need to improve my PP skills,

Cheers,

André

hehe... the funny thing is that I find that my best composed shots are ones taken with primes (I also have and love the 50/1.4)

Great shots!

I too prefer the second shot André, nice and sharp.

Like marcus said, the first is under exposed and the depth of field is too shallow at f1.8 to get the whole winch in focus, unless of course that was your intention.

With the shutter at 60 secs I'm guessing it was pretty dark so unless you were to use flash you may of had no option but to use f1.8.

Because of the distance between the winch and the opposite bank, you can easily use a higher aperture and achieve a nicely blurred background on a bright day which draws the viewers attention to the main subject, the winch, which will be tack sharp.

Please keep shooting and posting the results but most of all enjoy the experience.
Cheers
