50/50 glycine mix?i remember reading something about the 50/50 ratio for mixing glycine(spelling) for food photography.i wanted to give this try sometime this week for some water effects. picked up a pack of glycine from the store and noticed that it came in power form.
so i need to match equal amounts of water to glycine right? it seems it might be too thick to put into a spray bottle. anyone? Life's pretty straight without drifting

....... you should be able to buy liquid form from the local chemist.....and yes it is thick hence the 50 50 mix, it mixes better with warm water ....... and then use trial and error
Cheers ....bp....

Redline - Glycine is an amino acid and, unfortunately is not what you use for the glistening effect.
Just buy some GLYCERINE and mix with water, put in your spray bottle and et voila Chris

Other food photo suggestions:
That great looking bowl of cereal on the cover of your cereal box is actually cereal and white glue, instead of milk, to prevent the cereal from getting soggy. Want your Barbecued ribs to look mouth-watering? Half-cook the ribs, paint with wood stain and BBQ sauce. The ice you see in that frosty beverage is most likely acrylic "ice," that refracts light better than real ice and doesn't melt. The rich-looking syrup being poured over pancakes? Motor oil works well here. Enjoy Chris

I'm not sure if this will work with you, but from my research into things to make them look wet, I've found that through experimentation, Ansell's Lubricant does a damn good job.
Just make sure you paint it on with a brush or turkey baster or something. It's quite thick. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Yeah yeah yeah, I know.
I saw that coming from at least one person. Look, when you don't have a lot of cash and you're trying to give the effect of a slick look, you play around with various formulas found in everyday life just for the sake of it. This is one of them. (I hear it has other wonderful uses too...) Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

So you've only been told this by others - never experienced it first hand then? Peter

I've been concerned that when I get up to sydney I might say something embarrassing. My social group is fairly.. cheeky.. shall we say and I didn't want to forget where I was and who I was with and say something inappropriate...

You mean like Sigma glass is good or you want a Canon camera? On a more serious note, and speaking only for myself (Leigh is pretty good at doing the same) I have to say I'm very thin skinned and both easily embarrased and easily offended. I also have a really bad habit of keeping my tongue well and trully planted in my cheek Peter

Don’t really know where you can buy the acrylic ice cubes although I have seen them somewhere.
Be careful of using the words Pepsi and Coke - GaryS likes to call Sigma glass Coke Chris

Most el-cheapo shops will stock fake ice cubes and other bits and pieces you could use as props. i reckon you'd be surprised what you can find in them.
