Help: Tamron lens not working

Hi all,

I bought the d70kit + tamron 70-300. Until recently everything was working fine, but today (not having touched the camera for about 3 weeks) decided to take some pics at the lunchtime work soccer game.

I attached the 70-300 tamron and found that when adjusting the focal length dial the lens wasn't moving in or out

Now I can't get the dial to move the lens in or out and think something is broken inside.

Would this still be covered by warrenty ? It's less than 1 year old.

Should I take it back to the store ? or call maxwell ?

And if depeding on the repair costs..am I better off buying a replacement 70-300 nikon or sigma and what would you suggest ?

Naasif, I have this lens.

Check the switch for changing the lens to macro. If it is half way or on macro when the lens is between 70 to 150 (macro must be 150-300 on this lens) that could be the cause.

Remove the lens, make sure the switch is non-macro, and give it another go.

checked those settings. Switch is definately on normal.

With the lens attached or detached moving the focal length dial doesn't do anything.

Turning the lens upside down and back again. I can hear something loose.

Yep, that doesn't sound good. It should be under warranty - where did you buy it?

I'd get my receipt and other paperwork organised and give them a call.

You should have a copy of the guarantee to see what the terms are.

Actually, you can go straight to Maxwell and slam their door with your original receipt , they will take care of the warranty for you.
Domayne or any other reseller will recommend you this way also.

Depend on, who you will meet when you arrive at their Service Center
- The girl: she won't tell you much.
- The boy: they like "hot manure"

Tamron lens is normally returned to Tamron New Zealand, they do not have their office in Australia and Maxwell is their agent in Aus.

In the case the warranty thing doesn't pan out ? What's the recommendation on a replacement 70-300 lens ? (no i cant afford the 80-400VR )

Alternatively I have just got my new Sigma-

I haven’t had much of a chance to compare it directly with the competitive Nikors (70-300G and ED) but the look and feel is much nicer than either in my opinion. It seems to focus faster and smoother which is why I chose it, along with costing me $270 from HK. Birddog would be able to give you a current price.
