From the Tarmac

Was such a lovely day for a stroll out on the tarmac thought I'd take a couple of shots of one of our aircraft

Both with Nikkor 18-70 kit lens with polarising filter and UV filter.

looks like a beautiful day there slider... there's a few scratches to the front of that plane... are they all like that? (no I dont normally see a plane this close)... what sort of work do you do up there?

They don't cruise up with the big guys so I suppose there is more chance of bird strike etc.

The polarizing filter just gives both images that extra contrast, nice perspective on the 1st image

No good!
Lot of dents and scratches on the nose! The skipper and their maintenance guys did not look after, resale value will be greater loss

I believe you're working inside the fence, great shots and I love the colours both the planes and sky.

Scratches and dings on the nose indicates the wheels are too far back on landing

Very nice shots Slider. Love the colours and detail and angles. I must go out to my aeroclub and take some pics of the light aircraft!!

Question for you though, the polariser appears to have only darkened part of the sky, is it misaligned?? Ive never used one and so dont know if this is normal or not. I think someone else recently posted pics where he was having similar problems.

One problem with a CP is that you can get wedge shaped darkened spots if you push the effect too much. Th trick is to rotate the CP to minimise this that's why they are CIRCULAR polarisers. The amount of polarisation varies with the rotation of the filter. It takes practice and is MUCH harder with a viewfinder like the D70. I'm guessing this wasn't apparent until PP.

Pretty much the case but I like the effect in some shots with the gradient.

Err, no. And yes I quite liked the perspective on the first shot. Would love to have a play with a fisheye around this type of subject
