Looking for a Nikor 12-24 DX

Postby Troppo on Wed Jul 27, 2005 10:04 pm

Does anyone know where i can get a 12 24 Dx lens at a good price?

The best i can do so far is via ebay at around the $1,400 but coming from Hong Kong and i am weary of that.

Also after lens cleaning stuff.

please help if you can.

Troppo,
I think you have got some posted photos + your current posts, you may PM Gary or Leigh with the request of going shopping in Bargain section.
Then there's more chance for you to get one at the low price.

G'day Troppo,
Once you've contributed to the forum with some more threads and posted a pic or two, you can develop as much lens lust syndrome within the forum you could wish for  Basically, members just need to have a reasonable level of posts and a few pics up before the moderators can add you to the group...

I'm currently waiting for my new 12-24 toy to be delivered by the fairy postman angel next week, can't wait :)

Cheers.

I see... i have already posted a couple of photo's and planning to post a lot more, as far as text posting is concerned i thought i was doing well in the short time i had been here.

ebay may be the only alternative in the short term.

ce la vie! :(

Troppo, 30 meaningful posts and one photo are the rough requirements for entry to the bargains section. You choose which way you want to go. The reason we have a number is because we don't want people to come along, post for a week, purchase, then disappear. We want the hard work to create this distribution channel, which takes a lot of one person in particular's time, to be for genuine members. Also the after sales service takes time and effort so would prefer again it to be for members.

Sorry to sound harsh but we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. Good luck

Hi Glen
Thanks for the reply, first of all, i understand and appreciated what you are doing, i run a fairly large organisation and provide massive support for thousands of people.

My dilema is simple, i wrote in this forum unknowing that someone had the contact it seems to obtain (again i can only assume) better prices on photographic items. As i do not know what these people can or cannot do and i did not know they existed, i mearly asked if someone could guide me to a place where i would be able to purchase a lens and photo cleaning equipment at a good price. At this moment in time i need to purchase these things and i do not fully understand what "30 good threads" means exactly, nor do i realy care. If i make any posting on this site it will not be for the fact that i want to buy something, it will be because i enjoy it and i think it is the right thing to do with no alterior motive. having said that, i understand and respect the reasoning behind your decision, but i have posted a couple of photos and i have attended a great meet here in Brisbane, NOT for the fact that i may in future be able to get stuff cheeper but because i really enjoy this forum and by the way the fabulous people i have already met.

So. my question still remain, does anyone know a better professional photographic retail outlet that may be able to provide me with the best price on a 12-24 DX and some cleanind gear for my new D70.

Finally, i don't mean to be harsh, i just did not understand this forum well it seems, but i am learning and appreciate your help.

Troppo,
About cleaning stuff:
Methanol (substituted of Eclipse Fliud) is with Manta, he can share some for you.
Pec*Pad's price is in the Merchandise Section same as other tool as Giotto Air Rocket.
I think that's all you need for your CCD cleaning tasks.

As mentioned earlier, Have you PM to Gary or Leigh with your request?

I will need to get some tissues for the ccd but i am also interested in lens cleaning stuff. i tried photo continental but they did not provide much, i think i need some throw away tissues and some type of cleaning fluid and 1 Rocket.

Troppo,
Don't throw the used Pec*Pad away, with one drop of methanol, you can use it as lens cleaner tissue for the front glass.
Pec*Pad + Giotto Air Rocket arei in the merchandise section as mentioned.

Sigh ...

I guess I have to do this the hard way then. :)

Troppo,

What everyone has been trying to tell you is that 30 posts is just a guide; if you've made 30 (or thereabouts) posts that we deem (Leigh or I) to be of value to the community (thus demonstrating your membership of the community) then we'll be happy to grant access to the Members' sections.

People have been admitted with post counts as low as about 15, and there are many with more than 30 who are not yet there, although that's more because they've not yet asked.

We view attendance at a minimeet (or similar) quite highly, and I roughly equate that to 10 posts.

The other requirements are that you must have your location in your profile, which you do, and we prefer that you will have posted at least one image.

That said, I've just granted you access, so please check out our bargains section and feel free to send an email to Birdy - using the specific email address for purchases - to order what you need.

On the cleaning stuff: we have methanol, which is all that Eclipse fluid is. We have Pec Pads, which (a) are what you need to clean your sensor with and (b) can also be used, along with the methanol, to clean your lenses.

And, of course, we have the Giotto rocket. Don't leave home without it.

The reason i was getting a bit edgy is that i have an investment exibition coming up and i need some classy photo's, now... i thought i would have a crack at doing them myself (ego) to see what i could do and i urgently needed a wide angle lens. I am very grateful to be acceped to the members area and i genuinely thank you for that as my intentions are to contribute fully. but honestly, in the first instance i urgently need a lens to do this exibition and i am now considering contracting a photographer to do this or perhaps to ask a local member to participate, there is approximately 4 different projects as well as staff photo's. can probably be done in a day or two(Weather Permiting).

Regdor,
Sorry, I don't have the control of stock in my hand.
The 18-70, I never ever carry it in stock, due to it's the kit lens comes with the D70s and lot of members on this board put it in For Sale section with a better price, the price of buying new 18-70 is US$489.00 + shipping, while the price of used and in mint condition of 18-70 from members is AU$300.00 - $350.00 and I recommended it to you.
The 50/1.8, I didn't have stock for nearly 2 months, the last ones was supplied to Pirostich, and he had to wait nearly 3 weeks with prepaid and preorder.
Having said that, I ordered with what members ordered, I had some cancellation due to wait to long or no stock from our suppliers, created more headache and paperwork same as my funds tied up to the excess stock I have.

I have few 50/1.8 are in back-ordered still, and those for members who are going to attend the AW and prepaid.

Once again, please note: I'm not the photogarphic gear reseller and it's not my main stream of business.

Rodger,

I'm sorry, but I think I'm missing your point.

If a lens is out of stock - as can happen in any market-type of situation - then that's a situation that's beyond the control of the people that are trying to help you obtain the goods.

If you're saying that you're not yet a member of the Members group, have you sent me or one of the other mods a PM requesting access?

That specific question gets raised on these forums at least weekly, and the answer remains the same: if you don't ask, we won't grant you that access. That's because we do not, cannot, and will not go scouring through our membership register to see who qualifies "today".

I think that it's far better to deal with these on an individual basis, as it lets us properly assess each "application" to ensure that all of the criteria are met, as we do take those criteria quite seriously. At this stage you can count the number of rejections on less than one finger, and I'm doing probably an average of one per day.

Clearly, and especially from looking at the fact that we do take our qualification criteria seriously, this is simply not a task that can be automated, as much as I would like that to be the case.

So, I guess I'd like to see you make your point a little more clearly.

Thanx for your cooperation.

Garry,

Thanks for your reply.

Actually I was lucky the lenses were not available,as I ordered from Hong Kong Supplies and the 18-70 was $395 AUD,including delivery and the 50mm 1.8 $165 AUD including delivery.

This following link is the current price of the 18-70 on HKS site is:

And yes, you can order direct with HKS or other sellers in your convenience as other did. I never challenge anyone in doing this.

The only way that you'll do a better price than dealing directly with HK supplies, is by dealing through our resources. We have a special connection with HK supplies that provides us with even better prices and service than the great unwashed can procure.

And that's saying something.

I would like to say that i am very thankful that there are guys like Gary and Birddog how are prepared to spend their time and effort to help the majority of the members here, not to mention the financial risk taken on orders.

I don't think we should take it for granted that we can treat them like a retail outlet when they are clearly not making any profits and doing it literally as a sevice.

From my part ANYTHING you can do to help is greatly appreciated without question, just continue to do your best and thanks guys.
