So you don't like "kid" photos? For those who recently posted that they don't particularly like to see photos of the members kids....here are 10 of mine. Recently scanned, unretouched, with rough edges and...horror of horrors...some of them are out of focus! But I love them! By the way...he is bigger that I am now and if he sees these then I am a dead man!

"The whippings will continue til the morale improves..." Sorry, couldn't help but drop that comment in Matt! There is some very good work in this mix... I think it is worthwhile going through old images from time to time, in part just to realise where we are going as photographers but also to help us through the fact that we do not need the latest gear to make great photos! Good work!
Matt
As a card carrying member of the anti kid shots brigade can I comment? Anyways, here goes #3 - love the lighting, the way he's running into the shot and the colours (but please straighten your horizon when you finish the PP ) #6 - great expressive capture #7 - my favourite - the B & W is fantastic and this tells a great story #8 - weird - his head looks too big for his body #11 - really nice candid #12 - sorry - me no like (mabye too arty for my plebean tastes) #13 - another great candid Worst thing about all these is that given these were taken a fair while back I realsie just how far I have to go to become a really good photographer Peter

Photographic skill is not a matter of time. It is a point of view. The most important decision a photographer has to make is where to put himself in relation to his subject. Get that right and everything else falls into place. Capa got it right when he said you can't get close enough. Regards

Mattk,
I love them. I see a style in the images you have chosen to share with us, and aside from appealing photographically there is a strong sense of bond between the photograhper and the subject - the reflection and the boat being the most intimate IMO and my pick of the bunch. Thanks for sharing, Craig
I knew it - I'm NEVER going to take up a job as a photo critic Peter

Hi Matt,
I love your photos. Every single one of them has something to it, which I can't name, but they are saying: this is me, see my classic photos of a time gone by. I have probably been around during those times and these photos are reminding me and again the presence of the child is just great. I'll stop mumbling now, CD
Me either but I love the shot looking into the glass at the ship. There is a look of "boy I wish I could just touch it". Very nice collection. Cheers

Matt, you've done it again to me. I should be concentrating on your beautiful photos, instead you got me counting down the list. you're a good photographer but a lousy mathematician.

They are so good! You must get a lot of happy memories when you look back at them. Each shot captures a different mood. I echo the commentary on the bond between the subject and photographer. The reflective glass shot must have been difficult to pull off. Much better than the average "family shots" Matt. You should see my parents horrendous photo albums. You can share all the kiddie photos you want if they are this good!
Matt - #6 is stunning and also had to smile when I saw the shoes being worn by the lady (wife!)

Great series Matt.
I especially love number 7. Lovely silhouette with enough (presumably ambient) light to capture the expressions and convey a story. It has a candid PJ feel that still gives a sense of intimacy to the shot. Julian
Matt, what a great collection of images.......all of them treasures.
Thank you for sharing them with us......given me a nice warm fuzzy. Cheers Deb "Sometimes when you are sad Poko, it's good to hug the monkey."
Thank you Matt for giving me such a nice start to my day. These are the first images I've looked at this morning and they reminded me that I should have taken an extra few minutes hugging my daughters before I left home instead of the quick peck and squeeze they got.
I'll make up for it tonight. Simon

Now I feel like a social worker. But it's always a good idea to give the kids an extra hug. Then they'll know where to come when they have grown up and need some extra money. Regards

"When they have grown up" ?? Mine must've started early! Simon
