Otter Box ?

Hi All,

I am going bushwalking the weekend before the Christmas Party, and to protect my D70 I am thinking of getting an Otter Box 5500. Disadvantages a little heavier than I would prefer and a little bulky, advantages waterproof to 100ft and guaranteed indestructible for life. Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

Enjoy the walk Glenn - hopefully there will not be a nuclear holocaust (indestructable) or very deep pot holes with 110 feet of water in it!!!

I'm hoping for no 110ft potholes too, though I have had a few river crossings which felt like it (usually in winter!). Naturally this walk is after the "nature" comp ends

Out of interest I went and had a look at the Otter (had not heard of it before). Very similar to the Pelican cases - I sold 2 of these earlier this year and now wish that I hadn’t.

It does not appear to be very big!

If you are bushwalking then a few snaplock plastic bags should do the trick if you hit bad weather. The otter thing looks awkward to carry. Maybe good if your'e going white water rafting.

I was thinking that as well Matt. A couple of times when I have been with these guys we have done some light scrambling and belayed the packs down, sometimes dropping them. What I would really like is something waterproof, light and slightly destructible. It is awkward, the smaller one wont take a D70 with lens on (only taking two, 20 & 50) and I thought it better to keep a lens on due to dust. Price is right on the snaplocks though

Similar to sirhc55 - I had never heard of otterboxes prior to today, but have heard many good things about Pelican cases, from skin/scuba diving days.
