Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Simply stunning!
To me this is as the junction of art and science. I look at it and wonder "What's are those red dots between its eyes?' I have the urge to add balloon text to it describing what all the bits do.
Did you use the camera flash or a proper one? There is very little flaring given the reflective nature of the subject

Thanks for the kind comments. :D

Thaddeus: I use the sb800 for flash. I have no idea what the red dots on its head are for.... :?

Paul: I believe this insect is called a Cicada.

Are you sure that's a Cicada? Maybe a different species of it.

Could you explain if the eyes are really like that or is it not possible to have them sharp/in focus?

I've had the same kind of results with my dragonfly where the head/eyes would not be as sharp as the rest of the body.

What brilliant pics. Excellent stuff, mate.

As for the three red dots, well...... the internet is your friend:

Alex: Thanks for the kind comment. :D

Informer: I looked at some photos on the web that state this critter is a Cicada. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. :) Dunno what you mean about the eyes being like that. I took about 50 shots and that's the way the eyes look in all of them. Lots of my spider shots look like that as well. Some of these insect eyes are more like jello or pudding than anything, so they apparently have no texture to sharply define the eye.

Ushuaia: Thanks for the kind comments! :D And, thanks for the informative links to the info on the red spots. That was interesting. :)
