AW - Saturday Night (Dial-Up Warning)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Thanks for sharing the images Leigh
Is it possible to add usernames as captions to the images for the poor unfortunates who could not attend?

Looks like it was a fun night.

Thanks

Leigh

Looking at these shots shows me how little I know about shooting in an environment like this. I used the same flash as you and shot in the same place, but my shots were incredibly dull and dark. Nowhere did I get the lighting depth you've got here.   :( :( :(

I know you were using a D2x, and I a lowly D70 :D , but at the end of the day that can't account for it. Where did I go wrong!!!! PS where are the shots from the Friday dinner?

I'll be getting them online later tonight.

I've added some black and whites here now. :)

And I'm not sure I was doing anything different with the flash... I've always found that using the flash I'm at a disadvantage because I never know the hell I'm doing...

Excellent pics Leigh. Viewing these took me back to Saturday night, and what a wonderful night it was. I hope those that weren't there could also get the same feel of the ambience and mood by these images.

Thanks for posting the pics that I don't look half demented in... I can't wait to see the finger salute series. ;)

Edit: for an admin, it's surprising the number of people you DON'T know Nnnnsic!

I'm too lazy to open up an image, zoom in, and then go "Ahhhhhhh" and add the name in. :)

Great shot guys.

Stubbsy, you're probably considering this yourself, but organise a time to meet up with Leigh, or get Leigh to burn you a DVD with the NEF files on it and compare similar shots with iso speed, aperture, shutter speeds, flash mode and any dialled in compensation. I haven't really mastered flash use yet, but I have played around with it a fair bit and usually get the results that I want after a bit of experimentation.
