AW - Press Conference with NSW Premier

Postby PlatinumWeaver on Tue Aug 09, 2005 11:34 pm

I know I told this story to a helluva lot of people during the course of the weekend but I couldn't should pictures ( Forgot to put .nef software on my laptop before leaving ).

I've since written about my experience and posted some pictures. I posted to this section of the forum because these shots were in no way carefully thought out, and while positive encouragement would be nice, I don't want any overly critical comments about the shots.

Anyway.. check out the link, the gallery enjoy :)

Good stuff! I love the way you eased yourself in and became part of the meeting. This is something I often do and I get a buzz out of it. Great pics! There is nothing wanting in your photography. It is as good as any Pro's.

There any many ways to take this, I chose to take it the pleasant way.

Thank you :D

It sure was a buzz! As I said to one guy while I was there..

"This is fun, now i've just got to get paid for this kind of thing!"

Dean,

Well done, very interesting story, and some great shots.

How ironic though that you were so effectively - and easily - able to blend in with the massed media representatives, and so close to the state premier, and especially for his press conference on terrorism.

Consider the situation had there been a terrorist there too ...

What a great laugh!

I am also relishing the irony of you being able to get so close to an anti-terrorism-themed press conference!

Great shots Dean. I was cracking up at your story, and had a bit of a laugh at the airport aswell. It goes with the theme of anti-terrorism.

Some girls were obviously on a shopping for the weekend and had designer shopping bags full of clothes and a suitcase. They had the case open and filled it up with all the items from the designer shopping bags. When they finished they left this big black designer shopping bag sitting next to a chair. So me, doing the responsible thing decided to report it. I found a security guard about 30M away and told him what I saw, I said it was probably nothing. He asked where it was and he goes "That's not my area, I don't work for them. I work for Jetstar, and that's Virgin's area".

I thought to myself "If that was a bomb, I'm sure it will explode and go 'That's ok mate, I'm not touching you as you work for Jetstar and I'm only targetting Virgin'". It was such a stupid comment, I bet the guy didn't even radio it in. I ended up finding a Virgin staff and she just went over it and picked it up and put it in the bin.

kipper,

As I mentioned in another thread which Geoff went out with samester yesterday on a fishing trip, we pay for their jobs (Our taxes and the surcharge on airfares), finally they're the jerks.

Same story I had last Friday when I picked up Poon and his wife at the International AP.

The words came out from the mouth of one Security/ Protective Officer after someone showed him an empty bag but it was full of rubbish left behind in the waiting area of the arrival section belongs to One World.

" That's not my area, it's belonged to One World/ Qantas"

Considering I was wearing a Crumpler 'Brian's Hot Tub' backpack, I was really surprised that no-one even came over and asked me what was going on.

About 30minutes after the main group had left I was sitting on the grass, chimping and chuckling to myself. A pair of American tourists came up and asked if there had been a problem, I explained that it was just a press conference and it was over. They still had to ask whether it was okay for them to walk down the patch 50meters away from where the last remaining SES vans were parked.

Just highlighted for me the difference in security between Australian & American politians.

Thanks everyone for your great comments.

Dean,

The next time one of our dearly belove pollies comes out and starts spouting about how great our security systems are, you and Darryl need to call in to a radio station and retell these stories.

The so-called security that we currently "enjoy" is little more than a farce; I can imagine the late, great Tony Hancock doing a skit about this .....
