Best lens for Fashion Show?Hi Guys
had a blast great time at the anniversary weekend, thanks to everyone involved. I just recently went to the Sergio Tacchini launch on monday night, they had street dancers as the models breaking down and tearing up the place showing off the new spring fashions, the store was lit by halogen lights, i used the kit lens and i found it to focus fast enough to trail the dynamic movements of the dancers, but i had to use a shutter speed of 250 at 80mm and ISO 320 to get a sharp shot, i got way too much noise and no depth of field. I am going to another fashion launch tonight ,the format is much more stnadard, catwalk, bright halogens, slow walking models, Anyone got any advice for optimal settings to capture a tack sharp image with the kit lens. I will be at the front of the runway and I think the 80mm end will be most useful to me since i want a tight shot , not a full body portrait I also have a 50mm 1.4 this will produce great bokeh, but i have to get real close to the models, i will be at least 1 metre away from them, since i can't change lenses midway through the show, should I use the 50mm 1.4 instead,: f1.4 shutter 1/60 ISO 100? what is the best lens for runway work? At the Sergio Tacchini launch I saw 3 other pro photogs use the 17-55 on the D2x, some other guy had a canon EOS 20D and a 16-35mm lens(looked huge)
The fashion show is at Woloomoloo isn't it?

I think so. they don't tell me till the end of the day. the 17-35mm is a great lens, but judging from my experience in shows, Ineed to wait for the model to get to the end of the runway to take a tight shot. I like to get a versatile range of shots, long and close so I guess the the zooms like the 17-55 and 70-200VR are best How fast can you get me a 17-55mm? congrats on your 8000th post Birdy!
3-5 working days for the 17-55Dx Birddog114

Geoff,
Not in your case! stock landed here in between 3-5 days from date of order, unless it's been held up by the boy in blues. Birddog114

You are right Birdy - the boys in blue STILL have it . Geoff

Ask them if they want to buy it? perhaps Sarah (The girl at ACS) wants to lust it also. Birddog114

Yeah well they're playing games with us now, and making us wait ever so painfully. She can have it for $5k. Geoff
