First pics with 17-55DX lens...

Postby Geoff on Fri Aug 12, 2005 2:33 pm

woa!! I've now got my beautiful 17-55DX 2.8 lens and I'm in lurve...the first thing I noticed was it's AF speed seems infinately faster than the kit lens, this was the most noticeable thing..then there were a whole range of other aspects, the make of this lens is nice - it's solid and quite heavy, which can be a good thing in your hands. Anyway, after I've had more of a play I will write a bit more of a rewiew..here are some initial shots I took soon after getting this little baby out of its box these are jpegs straight out of camera...critique as usual welcomed:

"It's AF speed seems infinately faster than the kit lens"

I have the same lens, and that was my immediate first impression as well

Congratulations Geoff

The 17-55DX is a very Sexy lens, I have seen it been used at a couple of Fashion Industry event nights. Most of the pro social photographers use the D2X and the 17-55 coupled with the SB800.

the bokeh on your images are gorgeous, shot at 2.8?
what is the fstop sweetspot for the sharpest image?

Hopefully I get mine very soon.

Thanx mate! When I did some work for Big Australia Wendell I noticed a LOT of the pro photogs had the 17-55DX, now I have one..YES! :) The images you see were taken at 2.8 yes. I think from my first playings the sweetspot for sharpest image is around F3.2-F4 - but it's early days.

Congratulations Geoff

Once you mount it  it will be stuck forever.

Next will be the 70-200vr, I am still saving for it, hopefully a Christmas present.
