Your body in your profile!

Postby stubbsy on Mon Aug 15, 2005 12:05 pm

Just a suggestion. Now that we've grown and have people with a whole range of camera bodies, can I suggest that you add a tiny bit of text to the end of your location in your profile, or into your signature line, to indicate your camera body. I've done so (as you can see by looking below my avatar at left) and I know a few others have done the same (first I saw was Glen from whom I stole the idea). Makes it useful knowing this when responding to posts.

Peter,

Well, my AVATAR IS the body I prefer to work with - well as a subject at least.

sounds like a great idea, btw can i also add a suggestion. I remember there used to be (and still) is a thread along the line of "something about me". Could this thread be made a sticky.
And that to also get to know new members, that they be made to write something about themselve, as their first post.

my 2 cents

genji, the Mods are currently considering making "Location" a mandatory field - requiring people to write something about themselves might be a bit more than we could do, however.

You know, we're eventually going to figure out a way to add a selection of bodies in a field in the actual profile... and then this thread will be useless!

Adding it to the database is easy.

Unless we want to account for more than one bod.

Looking through the code and adding it to the profile code is another exercise altogether, and requires a heaped dessertspoonful that most scarce resource, time.

Just a really dumb question, why not put it in the signature as that's a more obvious place to look due to the larger screen area?

Piro

You'll have noted that's the alternative I suggested (although I originally said "tag" line I've just altered it to say "signature" line).

My preference is the location for 2 reasons - it's always on (you can turn the sig off) and it stands out a little more since it's the last thing output in the area on the LHS. Either is good though

The reason for my suggestion is I'm thinking as we get more varied cameras it will make dealing with questions a little easier. Eg no point telling a D70 owner to set their ISO to 100 or a Canon user being recommended a Nikkor lens.

Good idea stubbsy! It can get a little confusing at times discussing topics such as camera settings, when your not sure what type of camera people are working with.

Graham,

Reminds me of a couple of definitions ...

Bigamy : One wife too many.

Marriage: See Bigamy

VK4CP : could you please provide me with the link to that Mod?

I use a couple of sources for our basic changes, and I don't recall seeing this one. The only ones that I've seen that come close were to do with boards which have cars as their focus, and thgeir needs weren't quite in step with what I percieved ours to be.

As to the need, somebody else pointed out the ability to post an answer relevant to a camera brand would be a primary one.

Thanx.
