*Glee* New toy!! :D

Postby PiroStitch on Tue Aug 16, 2005 1:08 pm

Just received the PD70X but I'm at work...but I can barely work as I want to test this little unit out properly. Initial concern is the CF slot seems a bit too easy to break as it doesn't allow the card to go in deep enough.

Sorry to sound really immature but just had to air my glee :D

congrats on the new toy wayne, would you consider bringing it along to the night meet. I've played around with the epson p2000 and wanted to compare it against PD70X

Hi Genji,

Definitely will do :)

I can tell you that it's no comparison with the Epson as it doesn't have a screen to let you preview the images stored on it. It's just a portable storage device, that's it.

Nothing like opening the box to the newest, latest toy huh... I've been using a PD7x for a while and while mine is one of the rare ones where the door is still intact, I think it's a beaut for the purpose of simply dumping your cards to a storage area...

Seeing as my belkin card reader doesn't work with my new CF card (I am guessing something to do with the faster speed cards I now use...) I am going to have to look for an alternative.... what did you pay for this toy, PiroStitch?

Cheers

hi Rae,

Total was 313.50 including GST and shipping. I saw the Nexto and X Drives as well but I was on a limited budget, so didn't pursue them. Plus and the big plus were the rave reviews the pd70x received and it runs on AA batteries :)

Hey Wayne, just a tip, I've found that my pd70x fits perfectly into a Pelican 1020 case for that almost unbreakable protection.

It's just the thing for carrying around the unit.

Congrats Wayne. :)
I'm quite happy with mine. I had some reservations about the depth of the CF reader and the battery door, however it has stood up to some extensive usage without problems.
The CF door is ok. I carry mine on the side of my belt in the provided pouch. I leave the card in the device to dump at my side with the velcro top over it without problems so far. Although I imagine there is a risk of damaging it whilst on the go, I am a little reluctant to leave it lying around as it carries lots of images from a days shoot that I wouldn't want to lose.

Have fun with yours.

Hi Wayne,

Congratulations with your new toy. I know how you feel, I felt the same way a few days ago when I got the SB 800 from Birdie a few days ago and was at work at the time.
