This is the last mini meet in Sydney in the month of August. The next mini meet will be in September.

As usual:

D2x workshop at 00:00 am
Sigma mass is at the early hour of the day 2:00am
VR "Temple pray and blessing" at 4:00am host by VR gurus

Saturday regular mini meet is from 8:00am - 01:00pm
- CCD cleaning session, learn and DIY.
- Check and evaluate gears as lens, tripod, head
- Talking about photography including PS and Pping, lens and gears.

Trust me neither 28-70 nore 17-55.
I'll buy the 17-35 f2.8!
The 28-70 is so haevy and not perfect but better then 17-55 .
The 17-35 is one of the best lens with the 70-210 VR for sharpness and results!
So, I'll think 3 lens! 17-35 f2.8; 50 f1.4; 70-210 VR!

The 17-55DX has a metal build, it has almost the same minimal focus distance than the 17-35 and has a rubber ring at the mount point to protect the lens from dust just like the 17-35 but it has 3 advantages
1. DX format so i get a true 17-55mm
2. Looks better
3. More focal range

anyway i am open if you really think the 17-35 is the best way to go.

1/ No, you still have to work with 1.5x crop factor
2/ Look the same, 17-55Dx is lighter, cheaper built than the 17-35
3/ Focal lenght, 35-55/ who cares and I can survive with it
4/ 17-35 has more minimal of focus distance than the 17-55Dx
5/ 17-35 can use on film camera or future full frame DSLR
Your choice and judgement, not mine, if you can make up your mind. You had tried the 17-35 more than 10 times at the mini meets and you know what you should get.

Don't think that not being a DX lens makes crop factor a big issue...

It just means you are using the absolute best section of a great lens - the middle!

True birdy - the 12-24 is amazingly sharp at 24mm - more so than the 17-35 at 24mm according to naturfotograf.com

Ken Rockwell is very very opinionated - I take all he says with a grain of salt. THe members of the board who have the 17-55 love it. I like the idea of the 17-35 purely because it is using the centre of bigger glass.

Lowepro has about 80 model of bags, and some of their bags can housing a full size of a Mitsubishi 22" CRT.

I have the minitrekker along with my d2x, 1lonely planet mini book, the manual and my 50mm lens, it has absolutely no room to accommodate my apple ibook2 which is a 12inch ibook.

Now at one point I had my 50mm lens on the D2x it has a smaller profile, i managed to fit my 12" ibook in there but the zippers did not meet up

you definaetly need a bigger lowepro bag to hold all your goodies.

In order to become a full member - and so gain access to the bargains on the forum - the rule of thumb is that you need to have made roughly 30 meaningful posts, submitted an image for critique and added your location to your profile. This is all about establishing you want to be an active member of the community. You are part way down that track with your posts, I'd suggest you also add your location to your profile. Attendance at a mini meet is also viewed favourably and often sufficient for people with post counts lower than 30 to become a full member.

As you'd realise already none of this is particularly honerous, but it is designed as a small disincentive to those who want to jump in, obtain bargains and leave without actively contributing. This is particularly important since birddog does all the ordering and delivery etc for no personal benefit (ie it's not a business he's running).

Please note - I'm not suggesting you're a bad guy, just helping you out with the rules.

I see you're a moderator at Nikonian's so you probably know where we're coming from with this. I'm guessing you already have a camera too (a D2x?), so apart from adding your location to your profile you'll no doubt have some good pics to show us too. That's two down & one to go
